Net Stock Nuttiness Explained-It's beyond eyeballs now...

"...The unparalleled run up in Internet company stocks in the last several weeks has its critics and its boosters. Among the critics is David Simons, managing director of Digital Video Investments, who calls the activity "crazy." But Mecklermedia (MECK) business development vice president Steve Harmon, is among the latter group. "We're seeing the development of the first significant digital brands that will replace Main Street as the place to buy things," he told CBS.MarketWatch.com. "It's beyond eyeballs now, it's pocketbooks and the 'ka-ching' factor--commerce riding content. The targeted nature of the Internet better matches buyers and sellers more efficiently than any other medium can." Forrester Research analyst Kate Delhagen hears Wall Street singing "Christmas in July." Delhagen covers Net commerce, and she suggests investors are doing some analysis based on the strength in traffic and sales they see the portal sites achieving. "A lot of these guys are lining up commerce partners," she pointed out. "The portals are building audiences, and 'greasing the skids' for online buying later this year." Strength in shares of some online retailers is a logical result, she explained..."
