DIPY:
<<Besides, the present government is extremely xenophobic.>>
xenophobia, if it ever exists, is a hangover left from past foreign invasions, exploitations, usurpations, enslavement of the body, control of the mind, defilement of the soul, discrimination in their own land, forced conversions and proselytization of Indian masses for a handful of rice. Yes, it happens in any country under foreign occupation, rule or control. America was not immune, when the British were here. I am explaining but not defending. Xenophobia is not particularly a characteristic of Indians by and large. Take Jawaharlal Nehru. Having been imprisoned in British/Indian jails for freedom struggle, Nehru chose Lord Mountbatten to be the first of Head of State in free India. Nobody showed xenophobic detestations. The Indians not only accepted it,but also welcomed such a nice gesture shown to the British.
During World War 11, Gandhi advised Indians to side with the British.

Tfhere are more instances of paucity of xenophobia in India:

In India, a temple town , has a mini temple built in honor of a muslim princess within the temple complex. Even today, offerings are made in her honor. The story is long, but an example of tolerance and absence of xenophobia.

There are several instances of Xenophilia in India.

<<as soon as the British left India, begin to "lunge at each other's throats like savages".>>

That is what I call politics. Politics is practised in its rawest form at times. Watergate and the likes of it are practiced in different countries according to their cultural anchor and practices.
