Well, I saw this thread and HAD to join SI (maybe). Right now the discussion seems to have stagnated between a few individuals and I thought a new viewpoint might liven things back up. However, my POV is the same as this page is about.

The 2nd Amend carries the same weight today as it did when it was conceived. It is every bit as valid as the other amendments. It is an individual right.

Arguing about individual ownership of Fully auto machine guns or pistols is pointless. Arguing about individual ownership of nukes, tanks, planes etc is ludicrous. That is not what was meant because they were not even invented when the Bill of Rights was drafted.

The very concentrated control of the media in the USA and their anti-gun views are what is inspiring alot of the anti-gun sentiment. Sensationalizing the killings at schools, restaurants, etc glorifies the deeds and several people who are in dire straits see it as a way to "get even" or whatever. The media is a double-edged sword; when they are on your side you're golden, when they are against you you don't stand a chance.

That's all for now. Look forward to reading the thread.
