I couldn't comment without hearing the drive. Many high speed drives are extremely noisy. mitsumi 12x is the loadest I have ever heard. My plextor 12x is not that quiet. You have to realize CD's were never specced to spin as fast as they do today nor to tolerate the unbalanced nature you get when you paint labels on the CD's. All these things contribute to the vibrational noise. Beyond that I don't know what to tell you. I am far more concerned with function and performance then noise. NTI CD Maker will not to DAO audi recordings. Highly not recommended for audio. Check on the following URL for lots of info on your Ricoh. Make sure to flash the firmware to latest level.
