Ross Systems Pleased With Results In Process Manufacturing

PR Newswire, Tuesday, July 07, 1998 at 10:22

ATLANTA, July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:ROSS), a
leading supplier of Enterprise Resource Planning and Supply Chain Management
Systems to the process manufacturing market announced that in its recently
completed fourth quarter, the contract values of software licenses sold in the
manufacturing sector increased by 12 percent over the previous quarter. The
previous quarter had been the company's largest quarter in terms of sales to
the process manufacturing sector. The company added over 42 new accounts in
the manufacturing sector, in addition to expanding agreements with many of its
existing customers.
"We were very pleased with the company's progress in the process
manufacturing market," said Dennis Vohs, Ross' Chairman and CEO. "Sales were
particularly strong in the chemical, pharmaceutical, metal and food & beverage
markets. Sales in the manufacturing sector represented 70 to 80 percent of
total software license contract values. We also added over a dozen new
accounts and numerous contract expansions outside the manufacturing sector.
These sales are a strong testimony to the strength and richness of the
Renaissance CS(R) financial and human resource systems."
Pat Tinley, Ross' President and COO stated, "The value of software license
contracts increased in our Fiscal 1998 by 48% percent over the previous year.
This improvement in performance is due to several factors. First, the
expanded functionality of Renaissance CS from the Polaris Series of releases
has widened the gap between our solutions and many of our competitors. This
has particularly differentiated Renaissance CS from discrete manufacturing
software vendors attempting to sell into the process manufacturing market. In
addition, the recognition of our strong product functionality has become more
widely known as reports by industry analysts such as the Gartner Group and AMR
Research have highly ranked Renaissance CS. Another key factor in enhancing
our performance is the success of our Consulting Alliance Solutions (CAS)
partners program. Adding partners like Deloitte & Touche and Raytheon has
allowed us to propose implementation expertise to complement our resources.
And finally, our improved balance sheet has increased the confidence of our
customers and prospects in our ability to be a long-term partner in their
information strategy."
Revenue will be recognized for the contract value of software licenses as
specified in AICPA SOP 97-2, with results to be published for the fourth
quarter and full year on or prior to August 20, 1998.
Statements in this announcement which express that the Company "believes,"
"anticipates," "plans to..." or "should begin to..." as well as other
statements which are not historical fact, are forward looking statements
within the meaning of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995.
Actual events or results may differ materially as a result of the risks and
uncertainties, including quarterly fluctuation of software product license
revenue, weakening of customer demand and the Company's maintenance of a
minimal backlog, rapid technological change in the Company's product markets,
the Company's dependence on customers who use DEC, HP or IBM computer products
and other risks and uncertainties described in reports filed by the Company
with the SEC, including the annual report on Form 10-K filed for the year
ended June 30, 1997 and the quarterly reports on Form 10-Q for the quarters
ended September 30, 1997, December 31, 1997 and March 31, 1998, as well as
risks and uncertainties described in the Company's registration statement on
Form S-3 with the SEC in March 1998.
