A rising tide raises all boats. None of the copper ISPs have had much defection. If AOL loses a customer to ATHM, they are adding 20 new ones at the same time. AOL is a discount service,ATHM is a premium service going at about twice the price. As mentioned recently there is a viable strategy for having BOTH services just like I have both MSFT and NSCP browsers. As far as the narrow minded view that the pie is fixed and you have to rob Peter to pay Paul, I would submit that there are many IPSs out there. Too many. Wall Street is bidding their shares through the roof. Either the market is wrong or the growth of the internet is such that it can support an indefinite expansion in the size of AOL and ATHM. Eventually AOL will incorporate some for of high speed access, say, provide to their subscribers at a premium the AOL content form on ATHM's distribution system. This is an operating synergy.
