Steve, Is this what made INTC jump up this afternoon? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Intel (NASDAQ:INTC),Level One (NASDAQ:LEVL) in networking pact Reuters, Tuesday, July 07, 1998 at 13:32 HILLSBORO, Ore., July 7 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. and Level One Communications Inc. said Tuesday that they have agreed to work together on developing high-speed corporate local area networking technology. The deal includes plans to introduce complimentary products for such high-speed networking based on a technology known as Gigabit Ethernet and designed for Category 5 copper wiring. Such wiring represents the majority of network cabling installed worldwide. Ethernet, the world's most popular design for corporate local area networks, typically transmits data at speeds of up to 10 million bits per second. Gigabit Ethernet technology uses existing network wiring to transmit data at speeds up to roughly one billion bits per second, eliminating the need for companies to rip out existing Ethernet investments and install new wiring and equipment.
