Can you or for that matter anyone else tell me how Yahoo calculates their number of shares used in the earnings release? Last quarter it was something like 53 million shares. I just checked total shares outstanding as of June 10, 1998 and that number is 46,836,053 shares. In addition there are 11,664,648 options granted. That makes a total of 58,500,701 shares. However, I don't believe that they use that whole number. Last quarter's 53 million that they used was less than the total options and shares outstanding also. I think it was a little over 56 million for options and outstanding shares. Just wondering what they are using.
Can't say I'm not tempted to short again, but after taking a $21,000 bath on the last short, I'm a little gun shy. If it can get this high on no fundamentals, no reason that it can't go to $300 especially if gets split 3 or 4 for 1. I'll have to wait and see. Maybe I'll look at doing a few hundred shares if we get another rally. Thank god I'm not still short the original 2000 shares at 104!
BTW the float is around 20 million by my conservative calculations, but could be as much as 22 million if Sequoia unloaded the balance of its shares. I'm trying to keep a running tab on those numbers since Peter gave it up a few months back.
Speaking of Peter, Peter F where did you find those institutional holdings you used to quote? |
