This is an excerpt from an announcement today from Shaw Communications, Rogers Communications and Cogeco Cable, three of the largest cable providers in Canada. The rest of the release talks about @Home in the US a little, but doesn't really say much. My question is whether this sounds like @Home, or whether there are other types of services which the US version has. I already have cable access to the internet through Cogeco, and wouldn't trade it, but I'm wondering if there is really any value in @Home.
>>>>>>>>>> The (at)Home Network serves as a gateway to the Internet, offering Canadians a content rich multimedia experience. With updated video, audio, text and images, (at)Home provides stimulating channels of content ranging from news and sports to pop arts, finance, games, kids' stuff and more. Content providers include such respected Canadian sources as CBC Newsworld, TSN, The Weather Channel and Canadian Press in addition to major U.S. media sources. (at)Home's bandwidth also allows it to provide rich multimedia content, including the CNN video wall, Bloomberg financial channel, and (at)Home's Tune In high fidelity audio service. It will soon launch a CBC Newsworld video service, and expects to provide multimedia content from other established Canadian programmers. (at)Home Network is more than a simple connection to the Internet. (at)Home has developed a distributed, intelligent network that uses sophisticated caching and replication technologies to create a high performance parallel Internet, and brings the data closer to the user. These technologies, combined with (at)Home's focus on end to end network management, greatly reduce the need for users to traverse the global Internet for information, reducing Internet traffic jams and dramatically improving network speed and reliability. |
