Speaker recognition may be the biggest prize of all. When I frist began to learn about speech technology, I focused on speech to text. Later, I came to understand the value of text to speech technology, which in my view may be larger than speech to text. As speech to text should be speaker independent, speaker recognition ( biometrics ) the ability to identify or verify a person by their voice print is by definition speaker dependent. Now with the rapid growth of the internet as a place to do business, there are growing concerns about security. These can be met by speaker recognition. An ingredient of this is improved speech compression. I am not aware of the current leaders in this aspect of speech technology, speaker verification. I do understand that many comapnies are involved. I have heard that fonix/OGI technology is capable of speaker verification and that fonix has the lead in speech compression.

Does anyone out there have a knowledge base about this topic? If so, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you. For now, it may be speculation, but the future of speaker verification for secure transactions on the internet may be going in the direction of fonix or of fonix suppport using their "core technologies."

Thanks.
