I've got the HOODINI numbers!!

Mark, it seems that your estimates didn't catch the magic of such a deal... $1.6375M: that's ODIS' slice of the pie! (using yesterday's exchange rate for GBP/USD)

JUL 7, 1998, M2 Communications - Nomura International, the European investment banking arm of Nomura Securities, has successfully deployed Object Design's ObjectStore database in the largest object-oriented development in UK banking investment history. The value of the deal to Object Design has grown to GBP 1 million and now includes consultancy and support services.

The deployment follows Object Design's selection in 1995 as a cache manager for Nomura's GBP 30 million project to build a Europe-wide front, middle and back office system. ObjectStore is now supporting all of the firm's business across 10 European countries. As a core component of Nomura's component-based computing framework, ObjectStore acts as a high-performance distributed cache for dealer trading stations, interfacing with Nomura's underlying Sybase database.

Ian Buchanan, Nomura's head of technology and HOODINI project manager at Nomura, said, "Our partnership approach with Object Design over the past years has clearly demonstrated that pure object technology was the correct choice for our demanding business requirements."

He continued, "The use of ObjectStore has significantly increased trading throughput and boosted system reliability and performance. The success of HOODINI demonstrates ObjectStore's capability for handling the type of large-scale business-critical transactions on which the business relies daily."

James Beagle, vice president * Europe, Object Design, said, "The HOODINI project is clear evidence that ObjectStore can meet challenging component-based computing requirements as a high-performance, distributed caching mechanism. Its proven reliability, robustness and scalability is second to none. Tight integration of ObjectStore with Nomura's back-end relational database engine has made access to corporate data easier than ever before."

Nomura runs ObjectStore release 5 on Sun SPARC dual processor servers, which serve 100 client machines supporting 800 users throughout the firm. Through interface technology, ObjectStore is able to coexist with the relational back-end database and preserve its existing data investments.

Throughout the deployment, Object Design provided comprehensive on-site consultancy for the Nomura development team. The company also provided support 24 hours a day, seven days a week at critical phases during the development.
