John B. Smyth, President and Director of Unitec is pleased to announce the shipment of its first complete Distribution Automation system for the electrical utility market. Valued at approximately $600,000, this is the first of seven shipments with a total value of $4.2 million for Empressa Emec of La Serina, Chile. The balance of the order will be shipped over the next 15 months. This shipment followed three weeks of successful factory acceptance testing and training of four EMEC engineers at the Company's Burnaby facility. During their stay, the EMEC engineers discussed expanding the scope of the project which could significantly increase the value of the contract. The system consists of a Master Station with Hot Standby host computers, radio communications processors, substation RTUs and Pole Top RTUs. Previously, Unitec had provided only RTUs and Front End Processors for the electrical SCADA market to allow its customers to expand systems manufactured by other vendors. This is a significant milestone in the Company's maturing as a "turnkey" solution provider for DA/DSM (Distribution Automation and Demand Side Management) in the electricity field. The Company's product mix is currently evenly split between the Electricity, Water and Oil & Gas sectors providing an opportunity for continued dramatic growth.
