I dont know if I agree totally that MIFGY would go down in a
renegotiation at this point. It fell primarily due to Arbs shorting
it. The spread stayed at this level since there was concern the deal
would not go through since it did not deliver enough value to ISLI
shareholders. And, though this point has been debated a lot, the
prevailing thinking is that this deal is very good for MIFGY. Maybe
better for them than for ISLI. So a "renegotiation" could take many
forms but the bottom line is both firms need to reconfirm to the
markets what "definitive" means and what they intend to do to build
confidence. Or, if there is lack of confidence in the deal happening,
maybe the Arbs are unwinding now which drives up MIFGY and drags along
ISLI until the short covering is over and then ISLI is left dangling.
I hate to be so suspicious but I really would like some encouraging
words from both firms and a MIFGY close above 38 today or tomorrow.
