Gratuitous "likes" I can deal with in small doses. What makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck is the concurrent disposal of the past tense that seems to accompany liberal use of "like." For example, I heard a woman in the elevator the other day:

"So yesterday I'm like y'know on this lunch date, and I'm like sayin' to this guy that I'm goin' on this business trip to New York for a week, and he's like I should go and see this and that y'know, and I'm like hey, I'm WORKIN'!!"
