Rosemary, with all the negative pulicity about E*Trade, I would never consider using them. Datek, on the other hand, I have heard nothing about, but their service looks good. The unlimited real-time quotes are nice (NYSE real time quotes apparently coming soon), and the $10 is hard to beat. However, I am really beginning to wonder when they will get the NYSE trading. The told me about 2 months ago that it would be 2 weeks! They were very promt in responding to me in the past, but my latest queries about NYSE was seemingly ignored.
One thing I would very much consider is whether they have the ability to haggle for the price. Is it not supposedly a law effective in 1 month that these services will have to have some system of getting you the best possible price if you simply enter a buy at market price order?
As far as news, they said that they would be offering Zack's company reports for free in a month or so. General company news is really not an issue for me. Since I opened an account w/ PCFN (which I never used), I can get that stuff, since they neglected to delete my account even after 2 months!
