Warp 10 surges with Hewlett link

NEW YORK, July 8 (Reuters) - Canadian software company Warp
10 Technologies Inc. surged in heavy Nasdaq trade
Wednesday, apparently boosted by a linkup with Hewlett-Packard
Co.
Warp 10, a provider of asset management software, was up
1-4/16, or 72.41 percent, to 3-1/8. Activity in early afternoon
was more than 10 times normal daily levels, and Warp 10 was
among volume leaders on the Nasdaq exchange.
Warp 10 hit a 12-month high of 3-1/2 before easing.
Chief Financial Officer Ian Benoliel told Reuters Warp 10
had made no announcements since news last week of the
Hewlett-Packard alliance.
"There are no material events that are happening ... in the
company other than those we've already disclosed," he said in a
telephone interview from the company's Toronto headquarters.
"... We're very excited about the business prospects of the
company. We've had the best news that we've had in little more
than a year."
The companies said June 29 they had formed an alliance to
deliver Internet imaging and image asset management solutions.
The software relies in part on Warp 10's Digital Toolkit.
Warp 10's shares have sagged in the last two years, falling
from a record closing high of 15-24/64 in May 1996.
