Posting on behalf of Henry I am not a member of SI, so I couldn't post a message on Synthonics. But, you all seemed to be highly misinformed. Visit www.metacreations.com, a top graphics software company that has already developed and marketing the things Synthonics hopes to one day accomplish. Surely you've heard of Kai's PowerGOO. Well MetaCreations makes that. Also, they make a $20K 3D scanner that produces models for their new MetaStream web 3D browser. Intel and Microsoft are both involved (www.metastream.com). Besides there are lots of companies with technology and products that are better than Synthonics. A few come to mind: (1) www.photomodeler.com - the best photogrammetric software available by far. Synthonics' Wireframe Express is really junk (just ask all the people that ended up with PhotoModeler in the end). Synthonics patents will probably may not hold in court as they we have looked at them closely and see that Synthonics hoodwinked the naive US Patent Office in terms of prior invention disclosure. Basically, Synthonics appears to be an attempt to hook investors and other people naive about 3D without any real substance to their technologies and products. (2) www.sven-tech.com has a 3D-scanner and technologies (3) Cyberware is the industry standard 3D scanner The big disadvantage to photogrammetric techniques for 3D model creation is it is very slow and laborsome compared to a laser scanner like the ones mentioned here and the TriCorder you mention. With a $2.5 million contract, the cost of the scanner is insignificant compared to quality of result and integration with other software and WWW. MetaCreations/Intel alliance with Microsoft's blessing is a formative alliance. Please verify my facts and then post it so all you can bail out of the stock before it is too late.
