Some thoughts: first, if someone doesn't like a magazine, or a dress you're wearing, or your house, they would not tell you. It's impolite. Ever hear the term 'white lie'. second, I thought the magazine was very good for a first issue, given the delays. But, there were problems, and I specified what they were (IMHO). To excuse mistakes by saying there are always typos is utter horseshit. Attention to detail folks is critical. If your standards for yourself are that low, then why should investors invest their hard-earned money? You CAN'T MAKE ANY MISTAKES! Period. No excuses. Reputation is everything. And I don't think George would stand for any more mistakes. His standards are EXTREMELY HIGH, as the paper size and stock was super-important. He refused to put out a product that wouldn't look great. He succeeded. It does look and feel great. It's the content that needs to be improved. By the way, how did the photo on p. 8 (bottom) get included? Awful. I'm sorry if my comments bruised egos, but I stand by them. I want the best for the company, and am trying to offer constructive criticism. Better now when the world's eyes aren't on them, than later when they have a higher profile, right. So, in sum, a good first issue from an aesthetics standpoint, but from a literary standpoint, a ways to go. Remember the audience. If the magazine intends to be in hotels, your audience there is non-new yorkers. I really believe a restaurant section would be incredible for both content and advertising. But no mistakes can be tolerated (How about on page 7 when the author used the plural "rains" when, 2 sentences earlier the singular "rain" was used?) Folks, this isn't being nit-picky. Technical perfection and consistency are required. Done w/ my rant. |
