Voxware Speech and Audio Compression TechnologiesIncluded With NetShow Services

PRINCETON, N.J., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Voxware, Inc. today announced the inclusion of its real-time speech and audio codecs in the new Microsoft Windows Media Technologies. Voxware (Nasdaq: VOXW) is a premier developer of speech and audio compression technologies for multimedia applications, consumer devices, wireless telephony and IP communications.

Windows Media Technologies include Windows NT Server NetShow Services, the Microsoft NetShow 3.0 Theater Server and the Windows Media Player, a universal player that plays most local and streamed media file types. The NetShow Services enable Internet Providers, Web-site hosts and corporations to develop and deliver high quality audio, video and mixed multimedia over the Internet or the intranet. The NetShow Services supports both live and on-demand services using the TCP, UDP and HTTP protocols.

Voxware's speech codec family supports high quality, real-time speech at bit rates of 2.4 kbps and 2.9kbps. Optimized for voice over IP applications these codecs introduce minimal algorithmic delay, and make efficient use of the PC's CPU cycles.

The audio codec family, built on core technology from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, were developed specifically for the transmission of general purpose audio (music, sound effects and multiple voices speaking concurrently) at bit rates between 6kbps to 48kbps in mono and 12kbps to 96kbps in stereo. These codecs are also well suited for applications requiring high-fidelity audio in bandwidth-constrained environments such as the Internet.

"Voxware has been a leader in providing customers with the highest quality codec technologies content," says Gary Schare, lead product manager, Microsoft Corp. "Voxware's speech and audio codecs provide an innovative compression technology that will enable our customers to efficiently integrate sounds, voices and music into their applications."

"We are excited to be an integral part of the Windows Media Technologies" said Bathsheba Malsheen, president and CEO of Voxware, Inc., "The availability of Voxware's family of speech and audio codecs in the NetShow Services will ensure that Web developers and their customers have universal access to a broad selection of high quality codecs that were built for the demanding conditions of the Internet. It is, indeed, a significant milestone in bringing rich multimedia content to the Internet."
