Bill, I definitely think people should be allowed to have all sorts of idiosyncrasies, and that conformity should not be so stressed in our culture.

However, the assumption that high-functioning retarded people can be educated is, to me, a very loving one, in that it is supportive of optimal development, and does not warehouse people or assume they can accomplish nothing.

Are you suggesting that educating these people destroys their creativity?

Do you know exactly how old your kitty is? I have a really hard time imagining people who are so cruel as to abandon animals, but the world is full of them, unfortunately.
