Commonwealth Edison of Illinois is one of the largest power companies on earth. It wants to sell all of its plants: coal and nuclear.

Its nuclear plants are a millstone, so no one wants to buy them. Now it is looking for a buyer of all 15 coal-fired units.

I don't remember anything like this in history: a large public utility trying to sell all of its assets.

The explanation: deregulation. Maybe. But the deadline for the sale is mid-1999. That has a familiar ring to it.
