i am a person who has invested heavily over the past 18 years. I am both a fundamental and technically oriented trader. i did my time playing oex puts and calls and like most, got burned. i research everything before doing anything. i did most of my losing when gambling on options and i have made most of my money when i got more conservative (after i was married and had children). i made most of my money by buying good quality stocks with great potential and writing covered calls against them. in the case of the tech stocks, i just rolled those covered calls as the stock kept going up. i didn't make as much as i could have if i had not written options but i sure made a lot as intel went from 80 to 50 during the summer.
