Jeff--
Off topic, but yes, aren't the conversations one has with--what shall we call them? offliners, the uninitiated, troglodytes?--wierd? I can't seem to make 'em understand anything at all, usually. Europeans aren't as teched up as we are, and don't seem to take to most of it as naturally. There are exceptions, of course: for Italians, primarily the cell phone. I've got one now, FINALLY (they've become a LOT cheaper with competition from Omnitel), and at last I feel I can belong. You can't imagine how terrific it makes me feel to receive calls at the supermarket like everybody else.
Must note also that the success of the cell phone here probably has something to do with the fact that they work a great deal better than their American counterparts.
