Rocky,
I have no wish for a Zip250. But, for competitive reasons there needs to be a response to the real threat from Sony.
"Pure speculation"? - isn't that what this whole thread is based. Unless there are insiders on the thread who work for Iomega, then everything here is speculation - but that's a rathole.
Iomega has consistently said that they will respond to competitors when it's appropriate. A Zip250 that is clearly differentiated provides a meaningful response. Pure speculation? Who knows:)
"...clicking Zip100 variety..." - while perception is truth in this industry, COD zip drives represented less than 1% of all drives sold. This was an internet issue, blown out of proportion by shorts with a vendetta - IMO.
"Iomega obviously got caught behind the development curve on this one, as Imation is to release the USB LS-120 months ahead of a USB Zip."
While "is to" and have are two different things, I agree that Iomega blew it on this one.
"Plus, the USB LS-120 is compatible with Standard floppies (a critical feature) - something no Zip can do. Iomega has painted itself into a proprietary corner on this one."
Again, lets remind ourselves. The LS-120 drive was released at about the same time as the Zip drive. This product has never made a sizable dent in Iomega's market share - therefore the market has determined that backwards compatibility to floppy is meaningless. You can convince yourself all you want, but that issue has already been fought and clearly won by Iomega.
"But don't let blind optimism and loyalist speculations lead you down the road to financial ruin. IOM has done that to a lot of people here."
It's all relative. I've held a position in this stock for close to 4 years, I haven't lost a dime and I've enjoyed profits that would make the average investors head spin. So yes, maybe I'm a little far-sighted, but the important things in my life have been taken care of by this hated stock.
And just what if zip becomes a ubiquitous standard, and clik is for real. A few thousand shares that essentially were bought with profits is worth the roll of that dice.
take care, and try not to be so myopic. Speeds and Feeds ain't what it's all about these days. Creating desire and capturing the imagination is what makes/breaks consumer tech products.
good luck |
