Just some wild thoughts..
maybe they bought it to change all that; add EJB, RMI etc.
Or maybe they did so MSFT (or someone else) won't buy it. After all, NetDynamics does support Java, but as you stated in a proprietary way.
Maybe they're practising a "buy your compotetion (MSFT practises this in a religious way) and buy potential buyouts that could create competition)"
Just a thought.
