I know that. You and Jon, and Adrian (across the pond :)) just by coming here makes a statement.

Diplomacy is not one of my strong points, including my particular management style. But, that's another story.

Replace your name in the post with (Marengi/Young) please. You know as well as I do who comes running with these stories screaming "see, I told you so, I told you so". Look at that Novell, hrmph! Well, we can't go wrong with MSFT... yadda yadda yadda. Who? Right --- my (dumb non-technical) boss, and other MIS type folk's (dumb non-technical) bosses ...

You can churn the PR out till you kill the rainforest, but if you don't have a "hotdog" like a Ballmer throwing it right back in the
"trades" face .... well, you lose. Witness -- OS/2, right? Or at least have someone in your organization that can understand the DAMAGE that press like that gives your (our) company, not only with the IT industry, but with Wall Street. What the hell do you expect an analyst to think when he/she continously reads this stuff? What do you think MSFT would do if ANYONE trashed Exchange, or SQL Server, or GOD FORBID, NT4? Man, they'd be all over the offender like ... on s..t.

You guys don't do ANYTHING to rebut this stuff. THAT I can tell you is NOT MY Style. I don't give a damn WHO it is. I may not get any further than I got today, but I sleep very well at night.

======================================================================

Also, you say >> when PR puts out ... << (you being engineering, right?)

Well to me, there is no "we/they". There should be only ONE. One team. We/They is the exact problem that finally got to IBM. "Teaming" brought it back. That's why I said yesterday, too much time, too, too much time wasted with the corporate political bullshit infighting. Wasting too much time and energy fighting amongst yourselves, instead of directing that energy against your competitors. Look, I don't even have to work too hard to point out two things that happened in the past 4 DAYS!.

1. The cancelled developers conference.
2. The Infoworld Story on Groupwise I pointed out today.
(you can add Marengi's 50 min. talk at Internet World next week at
Javits in New York.

If *I* were the CEO, I'd be REAL pissed off at these items.

Regards Gerald (remember, I wish this were going to Marengi),

Joe...<And, I would do something about it too>
