Well folks, this is my first post. I have been watching this thread for a few months and have been long RATL since last summer. I am a computer consultant, and I use Rational's flagship product "Rose" every day. Believe me, it is a "killer app". Unfortunately, the learning curve for "Object-oriented" technology is steep, but EVERY company wants to climb it. 3-tier object oriented software is extremely complex to design, and the purpose of Rose is to simplify the process.
I am currently doing a consult for one of the largest software development companies in Winnipeg. They are typical of a large company. They have 100+ developers, but only 3-4 paid licenses of Rational's Rose because they aren't sure if it is the real thing. I am leading the project that uses these 4 licenses, and it will be an amazing success. What will follow is that the company will declare it as the company standard, and the orders for Rational products will start to flow. At $1,000+ per seat, it adds up!
Don't forget the value of a brand name, such as Coke, or Colgate. Rose is THE defacto standard for objected-oriented modeling. Noone else is even close. IMO, the revenues are going to explode once companies like this one see the light, and standardize on Rose. My average cost is around $14, and I watched it go down to $7. Typical theory is to get out with your money, but I am way long on this company. My career is technology, and this is the only technology stock I own.
I am also finished the CFA program if that means anything to anyone. I see value in Rational. Good luck! |
