kash--

CPQ wants the high end, but they also want to morph into a consumer electronics company. if things are this bad for AMD, you better believe INTC is hurting. their pricing flex on celeron (a name which oft quoted kumar forgets at times...an indication of a first rate securities analyst<G>) has to be at or near zero. which is cheaper to produce...K6 or celeron.

as for AMD being saved...i dont see any need. they need to trim R&D, cause it obviously isnt paying off, and pushing out the dresden fab would be a good idea, but as far as them being in total hell, its not that bad. there is something to be said about CPQ and IBM working more closely with AMD though.

one thing everyone seems to have missed is that all this means the asians are never going to get a real hold in the CPU market. so, when things come back AMD and INTC are going to be in a great position. i do feel sorry for NSM.

back to CPQ real quick...they want the consumer end. badly.

good luck to all,
trey
