The latest CBS MarketWatch article (http://cbs.marketwatch.com/archive/19980709/news/current/ddddf.htx?dist=yhoo) seems to suggest that quarterly earnings are on target but that a takeover resulting from today's meeting is a "long shot."

So one can speculate that the meeting will come and go with nothing substantial happening. I suppose that would be good, actually, as it would lay to rest speculation that the meeting was about poor earnings.

The CBS MarketWatch article appears to say that a takeover is too complex for various reasons and that's why it's unlikely.
