Dale,

The big problem Intel will have with Mendocino is performance, too much performance. If they attempt to use Mendocino in sub-$1000 PCs, they will cannibalize their PII sales. Also, K6-3 will be a better processor than Mendocino.

There will continue to be plenty of room for K6-2 processors, and the K7 will open up new territory for AMD.

Intel's dream that the competition will go away is very unrealistic. There is way too much money to be made in this business.
