Scumbria, >>>"Intel's dream that the competition will go away is very unrealistic. There is way
too much money to be made in this business."

I don't think Intel is waiting for the competition to go away. In fact, with the FTC and DOJ hanging around, Intel needs a couple or three "competitors" to keep the guv off their back.

When do you expect any company other than Intel to make money in this business? Right now, I'd be hard pressed to find a scenario in which it happens.

How about the K7? Is it going to be profitable? IMO, only chance is if it's plug compatible with Intel. In the CPU business, you're either completely compatible with the leader, or you're out in the cold. Exception is if you're into another established market/operating system like UNIX or MVS (Sun, IBM).

Some analysts keep saying, yeah, AMD lost money this quarter, probably will the next quarter or two, but wait 'til next year! Let them wait, I don't believe it.
