Vpelt,
You asked about the Microvision 1997 Annual Report. I will try to give you a synopsis of my impression, although it is not that easy with so much amazing information presented. Inside the front cover is an actual size color photograph of the new 1/100th size (of the previous generation) silicon-based microscanner. It's absolutely amazing to see the scanner on the tip of the finger - it's very small, no bigger then a fingernail! In the next year they will more than triple the resolution. The technology can also be used for projection displays, ie: home entertainment.. that will "enable substantial new markets to develop." High performance resolution capabilities, HDTV around year 2000, ultimate HMD (2560x2048) year 2001 and my favorite, Digital Theater (3840x2160) about year 2003.
Handheld 2-D Displays are on the agenda too. Cellular phones, pagers and palmtop computers markets will be targeted. "Next generation portable communicators, with a full size high-resolution monitor display for e-mail, office networks, or the world wide web in a device that fits into your palm or pocket!" Interesting that the sample picture shown of the display mentions "VRDView" nomenclature with the TM ( Trademark superscript)!
The report is well presented with lots of interesting photographs and quotes from several of the MVIS staff. The report successfully boggles the mind with all of the amazing possibilities of this continually improving technology made possible by the MVIS Team. |
