Ray-your point on DLC (Digital Loop Carrier) is well taken-
I have tracked the local loop plant for a number of years and the reason I am not on the DSL band wagon is because of the existence of these DLCs. Your analogy to a "bottleneck" is perfect. I like V.90 analog and ISDN with increased bandwidth using multilink PPP connections for last mile connections that are easy to provision and use and have the massive number of installations. But I am definitely in the minority now; however, based on how the CLECs address the DLC Bottleneck issue, I may not be in the minority at some later date. Cable is the best technology for getting broadband in the last mile. I hope the AT&T / TCI merger works on this score.
