It makes for better markets!!! I use ECN"s every day to compete with the largest market makers in the country. They hate the competition but that is the wave of the future. These guys use to have a birds nest on the ground but that has gone out the window. Look for many NASDAQ small market makers to not be around in the next bear market. The days of the easy money are over. This means small investors get better fills, more liquid markets, and keep more of their investment dollars.
