IMS have a niche target market in design verification of IC designs.

They have two distinct business areas. Hardware verification of IC design and virtual test software for design to improve the design to test link.

My view is that they are being squeezed in the hardware design verification marketplace by mainstream production test systems. The time to market pressures are now so great that it is now cheaper to purchase a production test system than to purchase an incompatible verification system.

The virtual test marketplace is going to explode in the future and this will be their growth engine.

My view is they will be a good long term bet as they will probably have major links to CAE companies. In the long term I would expect them to reduce emphasis on the hardware verification systems.

I would expect their stock to go lower (watch TER, LTXX etc.) before it rises again.
