  86 Diamonds Recovered in 2nd Round of Testing    News Release Mr J. David Edwards reports The Arkansas Department of  Parks  and  Tourism  is  continuing  with  the additional  testing program  at  the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Pike county near Murfreesboro. This testing is to evaluate the geology and grade of the diamond-bearing reserve at this Arkansas state park. As part of the testing program, diamond sorting was  conducted  during  the week ending December 2 on the diamond-bearing concentrate from trenches No. 2, No. 8, No. 13 and No. 14. A prior sort activity was conducted during the week ending November 1 on the diamond-bearing concentrate from trenches No. 7, No. 12 and No. 11.
  The results of the sorting for the four trenches are:

  The company is encouraged by the recovery of 86 diamonds larger than 1mm in size that were found along the eastern margin of the pipe. Of the 86 stones recovered, six were greater than one-half carat in weight  and  two  stones were greater than one carat.
  Any material including diamonds less than 1mm in size goes to the  tailings dump  and  is  not  included in any diamond count. Each trench contains 640 tons of material.
  This test represents only a portion of a thorough evaluation program of the whole  deposit. The company considers that to date no more than 25% of this occurrence  has  been  evaluated.  This  particular  deposit  is  extremely heterogeneous  on a small scale and these results cannot be extrapolated to encompass the whole occurrence.
  The company still considers the Crater  of  Diamonds  to  have  significant potential.  The  company  believes  that  future  results  will lead to the recognition of the source of large gemstones that are known to exist in the pipe.  The  three  largest  US  diamonds  of  record,  which  have all been recovered at the park, had uncut weights of 40.23 carats, 34.25 carats  and 17.86 carats.
  Trench 99 has been excavated and will be followed by trenches No. 5, No. 3, and  No.  6.  The next diamond recovery will start in the middle of January 1997.
  Star Resources  Corp,  through  its  wholly-owned  subsidiary,  Continental Diamonds,  is one of two participants that was granted the right to jointly conduct exploration of the Crater of Diamonds State Park  by  the  Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. Following core-drilling in 1992, the state of Arkansas and the US Department of Interior have  approved  the  phase  2 testing in the Crater of Diamonds State Park.
