Important Management characteristics - Novell should take a page out of Les Alberthal's (President and CEO, Electronic Data Systems Corp.) book......

1) Les Alberthal - Biography
innovate.si.edu

2) Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Management - Recent Speech <November 1, 1996>
byu.edu

"Lester M. Alberthal Jr. of Electronic Data Systems Corporation will receive the International Executive of the Year award......for his internationally-recognized management excellence, which is grounded in a philosophy that embraces family, hard work, honesty and the value of individuals..."
<Notice that he has ties with Utah - Novell's corporate headquarters...hmm??>

3) Article from Fortune Magazine - Management style <October 14, 1996>
mouth.pathfinder.com

"Alberthal is steering the company into new kinds of business,
and to win in those areas he has determined that EDS needs a
radically new identity--as the world's most sensitive services
giant. In a company known for its rigid, hard-driving,
quasi-military culture, that may seem quite a reach. But there's
more. Rather than hire kinder, gentler employees from outside,
Alberthal has decided to do nothing less than remake the souls
of his 95,000 troops..."

If Mr Alberthal is not on the top of the short list he well should be. Perhaps Novell can hire a CEO with many of his "excellent" management skills.

Any comments?
