Nick, I think your girlfriend's job concerns are coloring your attitude toward CSN as an investment. Big companies usually have "transition" type informative meetings closer to the big day in order to ease employee concerns, maintain morale, and ease the "big day."

Of course, I'm not aware of the position your girlfriend holds w/CSN.
In fact I thought you mentioned earlier that she works for another company altogether.

Anyhow,
Not that everyone follows Ma Bell's role model, when they split off
NEC and LUcent, but look at it this way if you can...
In theory, 2 companies usually means twice as much overhead and twice as much support staff to maintain the current level of service, so I would expect hiring, not layoffs or terminations. Usually, the paychecks are changed to the new name, but until the entire spin-off
is completed, not a whole lot is going to change but the name.

Furthermore, a spin-off is a much more growth and opportunity friendly process than a merger when means 2 of every position basically and at least one has to go management mentality.

Is your girlfriend participating in CSN Employee Stock Options and that is where her stressful thinking is coming from? Again, LUcent spin-off might give a reassuring clue as to the positives coming her way.

Anyhow, take a deep breath. I can hardly wait for the spin-off to be completed. What a great day that will be from a strictly shareholder viewpoint, imo.

PS...I'm just a little fish in a big pond, too. I'm not a broker or a fund manager.
