Andy,

Re: "Two more questions and I will stop bugging you."

No problem, Andy ...

1) FET stands for Field Effect Transistor ... This is a device that uses
an electric field (voltage applied across the gate oxide) to change the
conductance (how much current flows) in the channel between the Source and Drain.
Thus a small change in applied voltage to the gate gives LARGE (6 -> 9 orders
of magnitude) change in conductance.

2) My understanding of the benchmarks show that a K6 is slightly slower
(1%-3%) than an equal speed/frequency PII. But a K6 is slightly faster
than a Pentium "classic". Since the K6 is close to the P5 and PII in performance,
this is why process performance is such a key "strategic" advantage.
