Ramsey, Don't forget Cellular One which is AT&T Wireless, Southwestern Bell and now PACTEL. They are using TDMA and the combination is a powerhouse. AT&T at least is using PCS as just more bandwidth for cellular i.e. they are not differentiating between the two. They have a substantial installed base and it is very interesting to look at
ads in Chicago Tribune. All the ads include big letters like FREE PHONE etc. but all have asterisks indicate you need a 2 year installation agreement. This is essentially a way of tying up potential customers to Cellular One, even in analog form, such that they can then sell a TDMA (PCS or cellular) phone sometime within the two years to lock up the contract again. These marketing tactics are
going to be tough for CDMA PCS to beat. Just wanted to point out that
the CDMA PCS systems will be competing in many cases not against pure
PCS systems but against hybrid systems like AT&T's.
