Bill, I would like to "briefly" comment on your comment, particularly your statement, "...encourage more careful sexual behavior and prevention." Well, we all know that sex is not the only mechanism of transmitting/acquiring HIV and you seem to have left out the other possibilities. Then, when you refer to careful sex, how would you propose that that be accomplished in 3rd world countries, eg., Africa, where the disease is rampant, the people are not educated about HIV, people will not alter their usual sexual behavior, there are no effective preventative measures being offered, and there is NO effective treatment available (and, God forbid, only AZT might be offered!)? The "large percentage of the HIV population" is NOT in the developing countries, where effective medications are potentially available to control the disease. So the development of new, mutant HIV strains would not surprise me. So, I would like your ideas about how to proceed with "prevention and changing behavior." We cannot "afford" to have the NIH, etc., cut back funding for HIV/AIDS research, or we, or our offspring, are going to be doomed. In conclusion, I had written a note to Eisenger when the AGPH article was published last year. JC Cramer e mailed me a note calling me a "jerk." I then cancelled my subscription to TSC. Wonder why there is an SI "James Cramer Hate Thread"? Maybe you can get a free 2 wk subscription and copy/post the AGPH article for us. Thanks for listening. <eom> |
