How can this statement of the specialist controlling the price of a stock be correct when over 70% of the orders transact directly between a representative of the buyer and seller bypassing the specialist? Perhaps this statement is true with the more illiquid issues. I have seen evidence with preferred issues to support this specialist control of price. Now the NASDAQ MM may be a different story.
