Re: Why are we here?
A very good question with a simple answer.
Many of us that frequent this thread certainly don't need to take time out of our day to share information with others. So why do we do it?
The first reason that comes to mind is that this thread enjoys a real sense of community and humor. This is a fun thread! We laugh together, we cry together, and we make money together (hopefully) by sharing trading ideas and experiences. The regulars on this thread have proven themselves over time by suggesting ideas, discussing the risks, and enjoying the praises or suffering the flames for their picks.
No one here (except me!) has a crystal ball and is infallible, but many of us have a knack for picking stocks which perform fairly well. I have my fair share of dogs documented on this thread, but I hope that the majority of my picks have helped others to gain financially. I have gained and lost investing in companies which others have offered up here, but the losses or gains are my own because I chose to buy or short a particular stock or option. I don't blame somebody for a loss or send somebody a commission on a gain. We all learn from our common experiences and hopefully we become better investors with each passing day.
So why are we here? Because it is fun... plain and simple.
