My name is not Paul,Paul.

Re: " Let's face it, you cringe every time you see the name "Celeron"..."

Get serious! Celeron is a perfectly fine name - and a very strategic product.

Intel introduced the Celeron to compete at the low end - and succeeded wildly - driving AMD's brand new, state of the art K6-2 3DNOW into the Celeron price range!

Now, AMD can't make a dime on the thing!

That leaves Intel's Pentium II and Xeons priced on a plateau that AMD can't touch.

Result - profit stabilization and (hopefully) profit expansion!

That's for Intel, of course.

Go Celeron! Drive down AMD and Cyrix ASPs!

You just can't recogtnize a brilliant marketing coup d'etat.

Paul
