I don't want to get a whole political rant going here. But...

Those of us who follow Loral have had a lifetime of that in the past few months over the alleged transfer of militarily useful satellite technology to the Chinese (which, as everyone who cares can now easily find out, NEVER HAPPENED!). In that case, the Republicans used a lot of cold war rhetoric to exploit a minor procedural error into a major political broughaha, accusing everyone involved of treason, including President Clinton, their real target. LOR and all the satellite stocks tanked 20+% and are only now recovering as even the less responsible Rrepublicans have to face the facts.

In this case, these are the same neanderthal brown shirted book burners who prevent our children (even here in Pennsylvania!) from getting textbooks that accurately represent history and today's world. It is actually a very interesting case study of political action. Put bluntly, their de jure veto power over books in the Texas school system gives them de facto veto power nationally, because publishers will not publish a book that cannot be used in such a large market.

Here, they are ostensibly attempting to use the same sort of leverage, but this can not effect Disney. As earlier posters have shown, this represents such a small portion of DIS's daily trading volume that it will have no effect there at all. In practical terms then, this is a publicity stunt.

Jim, you are absolutely correct when you call them immoral panderers. I have to wonder whether they are attempting to use issues of morality to advance their political agenda or the other way around. Or, as seems likely to cynical-old-me, they have not really thought about the long term implications of what they are doing.

Certainly this has no long term effect on DIS.

BTW, if anyone wants an interesting take on what could happen if the religious hard-liners take over, check out a book by Robert Heinlein (certainly no flaming liberal like me!), REVOLT IN 2100.

End of rant. Pass the Scotch.
