Michael, I am well aware of the Washington State Supreme Court's upholding the ban on jet skis in the San Juan Islands. While I would not like to hamper your freedoms unduly, these vehicles have a very high fatality/serious injury rate, and they traumatize birds and animals as well, some of whom are endangered.

Like all sorts of intrusive personal craft which can compromise the environment, I think maybe a fair solution would be to set aside recreational areas where they are allowed. There is sure a lot of water and beaches up there, so I think it could be worked out so everyone is happy.

Here is the article from the Seattle Times, for anyone who is interested:

Incidentally, are you familiar with Whatcom County? Lummi Island in particular? Blaine? Semiahmoo? This seems like a place where I might be happy. I need a fallback plan if Ireland does not work out for some reason, and smack dab up against the Canadian border, with Vancouver, one of my very favorite cities, only 45 minutes away, sounds like a distinct possibility.
