I-Link Worldwide Adds AS Group

PR Newswire - July 10, 1998 18:37

Company anticipates adding more than 15,000 new representatives

DRAPER, Utah, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- I-Link Inc. (Nasdaq: ILNK), an enhanced voice and data
communications company, today announced the addition of the AS Group of network marketers to the
I-Link Worldwide distribution channel.

The AS Group, a network marketing group co-founded by Alex Arnold and Scott Mercker, was
formerly with Journey Telecom. Journey Telecom ceased operations in June of this year. It is believed
that many of the AS Group's more than 15,000 representatives will now be I-Link Worldwide
independent representatives.

"I-Link is experiencing very positive dynamic growth on a variety of fronts," said John Edwards,
chairman and CEO of I-Link. "One of the bellwethers of this growth is the addition of the AS Group to
our network marketing channel. In addition we recently received a $10 million equity investment that
allows us to further expand our telecommunications network and build the necessary infrastructure to
support this growth. Our business is strong and we are very positive about the future."

Arnold and Mercker have nearly 20 years combined experience in network marketing including building
very successful groups at both Excel Communications and Journey Telecom. In the last four years the AS
Group has sold more than $100 million in telecommunications products via network marketing.

According to Jon McKillip, vice president of I-Link Worldwide, the AS Group is a significant addition to
I-Link. "Alex and Scott have built one of the most respected networking marketing groups in the
industry. The AS Group was aggressively pursued by more than a few other network marketing
companies. The fact that they chose I-Link is a significant coup and indicative of the excellent
opportunities we offer and services we provide," McKillip said.

Arnold said, "We are excited to be joining I-Link. We looked very carefully at several companies before
choosing I-Link. I-Link shares our vision for building a new kind of global communications company."

Mercker believes the I-Link management team was also a key part of their decision. "I-Link's executives
have great experience managing hypergrowth environments. This is particularly important to us as we
expect our group to bring more than 35,000 distributors into the I-Link channel in the next 12 months,"
said Mercker.

The products and services sold by I-Link Worldwide include long-distance and enhanced
communications offerings. The two primary products, V-Link Access and V-Link Access One, offer
long-distance rates as low as 4.9 cents per minute as well as fully integrated communications services
such as voice mail, e-mail, fax, voice-on-demand, fax-on-demand, teleconferencing, one- number
services and a Web interface. Monthly subscriptions start at $4.95 per month.

Founded in 1994, I-Link Inc. is an enhanced voice and data communications company that uses Internet
protocol (IP) telephony and its own private network to provide low-cost long-distance, conference
calling, voice mail, fax, e-mail and other communications services. I-Link's products and services are
primarily offered through a network marketing channel. Through wholly owned subsidiaries MiBridge
Inc. and ViaNet Technologies Ltd., I-Link develops emerging communications technologies that are used
by I-Link and other leading communications firms worldwide. I-Link is headquartered in Draper, Utah,
and its Web site is located at i-link.net.
