MSFT, Money and other matters....
Nice to see one our regular friends finally give us the real reason why he's giving up the ghost. He got his "in your face...I was right and you were wrong chit with his MSFT call" I hope he made his $1-2 million - 2000 contracts and $64,000 is small change if you really believe.
I have a good friend who goes to the same gambling table - made and lost his $1-2+ million on several occasions. Can't hold a real job, but is eccentric as they come. When he's right, oh my God....its soapbax, drama, Moses and the Red Sea parting. When he's wrong there's silence, scrambling, pain, etc. He's one of the biggest single naked option players in the world. It's a fools game, but a very exciting and entertaining one at that. If you like technology drama, we are definitely coming down to the wire with Novell vs. Microsoft. I posted this yesterday on MF:

Family reunion in Montana (Big Sky Country)- 30+ people, 17 dogs. Nothing better. BTW, I am heading to Salt Lake and Provo in two weeks to raise money for another "smart" product: SMART airbags.
Paul Smart from Novell, are you out there? I'd like to meet with you and Eric for a cup of coffee to talk about The Smart Network Solution.
I am working with a company in Austin TX that has a killer enterprise software that integrates SAP and other offerings: SMART Technologies.
Nice to see others expanding upon this thought....
>>Bill is deathly afraid of Eric giving NDS for NT away for free. Imagine all of the NT 4.0 customers building their network and systems infrastructure around NOVL's NDS!!!! The more NT5.0 is delayed, the more NDS penetration. Why not implement the world's best directory services software, especially when it's FREE???!!!!! As a customer, after being pleased with NDS, you are given an upgrade opportunity a year or two from now for NT5.0 with Active Directory. What would you do?? How can MSFT sell the conversion from NDS?? THEY CAN'T!!!!! This is an ace in the hole for NOVL. There's great power in controlling the standard.>>
Eric, I hope you hold the knife as close to Gate's throat as you can. Don't be afraid to go further. To negotiate from a position of strength you HAVE to be willing to walk: ie. give NDS for native NT away for FREE.
>>#3 Partnership opportunities for NOVL and MSFT abound. Some of them include better networking software components, NDS and Internet Directories, Clustering, Authentication services, multimedia, and Java.>>
Only if Eric plays very tough.
Portals like Yahoo and others pale in comparison to the REAL power that resides in Network and Directory Services. NDS is everymans, every enterprises ultimate portal (the portal of portals within) - if managed with apps built on top going forward, it has the power to advertise, factor, sort, display, authenticate, redistribute. Resell and redistribute NDS power within corportations. Let the corporate enterprises of the world carry the ad/marketing revolution right into the heart of their enterprise networks NOW, rather than wait for Gate's to align the entire world to Windows/NT so we can have ONE standard. The ONE standard thing is BS. It won't happen!! The internet will make sure there is more life within existing enterprise systems - as long as there are companies like Novell that adhere to OPEN STANDARDS!
Think about this Eric. I'd like to meet you in two weeks if you have the time.
>>That's all for now. GO NOVL!!!!!>>
Well said....
