Barry,

There are facilities within the html language that provide information
about the user that is accessing the particular page. Some of the
information includes the domain name and system name of the user.
Also included is the URL of the previous page visited. Sites are
now also using a "click through" feature on banner images and other
ad type icons. This "click through" feature allows the site to
measure the number of times a particular ad is clicked on to access
the advertiser pages. The advertiser also receives information
about which location the person entered through. This then provides
the advertiser with information about which sites are being used
to access them and it provides the various sites with information
about which ads are being hit and how many times they are being
hit.

Hope this is something like what you were looking for - yes, it
does mean that "big brother" out there can determine a lot about
a persons web surfing.
