DULLES, Va., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- America Online (AOL), the world's most popular Internet online service, last night announced the first annual AOL Members' Choice Awards, which honor the most popular AOL content areas and Web sites in cyberspace based on a popular vote. AOL presented awards to ten content area winnersduring a special ceremony at its partners conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The AOL content area winners are: The Grandstand, Best Community Area; Nickelodeon, Best Kids/Family Area; Hecklers, Best Humor Area; NTN Communications, Best Game Area; AOL's Today's News, Best Daily Feature; AOL's Olympics, Best Special Event; The Motley Fool's 13 Steps to Investing Foolishly, Best Live Series; Rosie O'Donnell, Best Online Personality; The Sporting News, Best New Area; and ABC Online, Best Area.

The AOL Members' Choice Award recipients will be promoted on AOL and will display the AOL Members'Choice seal prominently on their own areas.

"The AOL Members' Choice seal symbolizes outstanding Internet and online content," said Bob Pittman, Presidentand CEO of AOL Networks, a newly created subsidiary of AOL Inc. "It represents quality, creativity and innovation -- all of the characteristics that define the very best in interactive services.

The Web site winners are: ESPNET SportsZone, Best Community Web Site; Disney.com, Best Kids/Family Web Site; Comedy Central Online, Best Humor Web Site; Riddler, Best Web Game; CNN Interactive, Best Web Daily Feature; NBC Olympics Home Page, Best Web Special Event; Discovery Channel Online, Best Web Live Series; The Dilbert Zone, Best Web Personality; MSNBC, Best New Web Site; and ESPNET SportsZone, Best Web Site.

To select the winners, AOL's seven million plus members had an opportunity to vote for their favorite areas online and on the Web. An icon on the front screen directed members to an area where they could cast their ballots after reviewing a list of the four nominees in each of ten categories representing the most popular content areas and Web sites.
